A sunny day but with a northwest wing. A quiet day with few birds about apart from 3 Yellow Wagtail, 10 Wheatear, and a Whinchat. Viz mig produced 235 Swallow, 2 House Martin, 2 Turnstone and single Grey Wagtail and Greenshank heading south.


Friday 30th August 2013

Another hot and sunny day. A nice selection of migrants about with 7 Willow Warbler, 3 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 11 Wheatear, 1 Black Redstart, 1 Tree Sparrow, 2 Spotted Flycatcher and the first 2 Rock Pipits of the autumn. Viz mig involved southerly passage of 714 Swallows, 2 Sand Martins, 13 House Martins, 2 Grey Wagtail and a single Yellow Wagtail. Offshore 11 Shelduck headed south and an Arctic Skua headed north.

Ringing; 14 Swallow, 3 Willow Warbler and single Blue Tit, Reed Warbler, Greenfinch & Linnet.

Thursday 29th August 2013

Another sunny & hot day with a southwesterly breeze. Apart from a Barred Warbler mid morning the only birds of note were 12 Wheatear, 3 Garden Warblers, 8 Willow Warblers and single Whinchat and Black Redstart. Viz mig involved 91 Swallow and 6 Sand Martin heading south and a Gannet heading north offshore.

Ringing; 5 Willow Warbler and single Dunnock & Garden Warbler.

Wednesday 28th August 2013

A slight NNW wind with mist at first but clearing as the morning progressed then sunny. A drop in the number of migrants about today with 8 Willow Warbler, 7 Wheatear, 4 Whitethroat, 3 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Whinchat, a Garden Warbler, a Pied Flycatcher and the Wryneck continued to show. Offshore a Fulmar headed south.

Ringing; 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Whitethroat & a Lesser Whitethroat.

Tuesday 27th August 2013

The day started foggy with a slight northerly breeze, by 7am the fog started to lift and the day became sunny and hot. A nice selection of migrants were about today with a Wryneck still continuing to show along with 8 Willow Warblers, 2 Pied Flycatcher, a Yellow Wagtail, 2 Whinchat, 6 Redstart, 2 Whitethroat, 11 Wheatear, 2 Garden Warbler, 37 Swallow (34 west, 3 north), and a Sedge Warbler. Clouded Yellows continue their good year with at least 14 seen this morning.

Ringing; 5 Willow Warbler, 2 Pied Flycatcher and single Blackcap, Sedge Warbler, Swallow & Whitethroat.

Monday 26th August 2013

A northerly breeze continued all day. Migrants about today involved 5 Wheatear, 3 Redstart, 2 Black Redstart, 8 Willow Warbler, 2 Whinchat, single Pied Flycatcher, Tree Pipit and a Wryneck that continued to show but was elusive. Overhead 3 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Swallow and single Grey Wagtail headed south. Offshore southerly passage included 94 Teal, 21 Common Tern, 8 Wigeon, 2 Gannet, 2 Shelduck and single Lapwing, Grey Plover & Golden Plover, whilst 2 Sandwich Tern, 17 Common Tern, 4 Gannet and an Arctic Skua headed north.

Sunday 25th August 2013

Entertaining. At least 3 Wryneck still here with an Icky traped at 0550hrs. Also noted 25 Wheatear, 9 Whinchat, 6 Willows, 4 Yell Wags, 4 Whitethroat, 4 Redstart, 4 Garden W., 2 Tree Pipit, 2 Lesser 'throats, 2 Pied Fly, Black Red & Golden Plover. Going south 179 Teal, 37 Wigeon, 27 Shoveler, Tufted, Greenshank & Merlin.

Ringing - 2 willows, 2 garden w., 2 greenfinch, whitethroat, lesser throat, icterine w., house sparrow.
