Brimstone is only infrequently noted here.

Flat calm, frost, glorious sunshine. Migrants hard to come by but included 3 Goldcrest, Firecrest, Greenfinch, Mipit & Redwing. No vis mig although 2 Buzzards drifted over the top end of the site then north. 3 Brent, single Gannet & Great-crested Grebe noted offshore.


Lead-coloured Drab is not recorded annually.

Ringing: 2 Goldcrest, 1 Blackbird, 1 Linnet, 1 Wren.

Thursday 28th March 2019


Migrants today included 50 Starling, 8 Chiffchaff, 5 Goldcrest, 4 Redwing, Fieldfare, Rock Pipit, Wheatear, Woodcock plus a couple of new Robins. 5 Snipe gaining height and moving north was notable. Offshore southbound 8 Shelduck & 2 Gannet with northbound, 6 Oyk, 2 Red-throated Diver & Bonxie.

Ringing: 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Robin, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Linnet, 1 Wood Pigeon.

Wednesday 27th March 2019


Always good to get a Mistle Thrush drop in. Other migrants include 6 Chiffchaff, 5 Redwing, 3 Wheatear, Black Redstart, Goldcrest, Rock Pipit, Sparrowhawk & Skylark. Vis mig poor with just a single Mipit logged. Offshore a handful of Brent plus 2 Great-crested Grebe south. A Hedgehog marching down View Point Road at 0445 hrs is notable as very few occur here.


Early Grey is a common enough species but only rarely noted here.

Ringing: 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackbird, 1 Redwing.

Tuesday 26th March 2019


On the move south single Heron, Rook & Yellowhammer. On site 3 Goldcrest, 3 Wheatear, Black Redstart, Brambling, Purple Sand & Turnstone. A bit to clear, cold & sunny for many migrants but at least the first Small White of the year showed up.

Ringing: 3 Goldcrest, 1 Wood Pigeon.

Monday 25th March 2019

Colder north-westerly conditions not ideal. On the move southbound 112 Black-headed Gull, 21 Common Gull, 4 Brent, Shelduck, Gannet & Yellowhammer overhead with northbound 3 Greylags plus a Jackdaw that went south before returning north. On site 3 Wheatear, 2 Goldcrest, Brambling, Chiffchaff, Firecrest & Snipe.


Common Plume occurs here in very small numbers and did well to find the trap in this wind.

Ringing: 1 Redwing.

Sunday 24th March 2019


Quieter today after yesterdays unexpected visitor. On site 4 Wheatear, 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Goldcrest, Blackcap, Black Redstart, Long-tailed Tit & Purple Sand. On the move southbound 8 Carrion Crow, Skylark & Siskin plus in off the sea 4 Mipits & Lapwing.

Ringing: 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Dunnock, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Long-tailed Tit.

Saturday 23rd March 2019


The third site record of Red-flanked Bluetail was most unexpected. Other migrants were 50 Redwing, 8 Goldcrest, 3 Chiffchaff, 3 Mipit, 2 Firecrest, 2 Jackdaw, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Wheatear, Black Redstart, Brambling, Fieldfare, Reed Bunting, Siskin, Woodcock plus a couple of new Blackies & Robins.


Turnip was unseasonal as they don't normally appear until May.

23 birds ringed: 8 Redwing, 5 Goldcrest, 3 Blackbird, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Firecrest, 1 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Red-flanked Bluetail, 1 Robin, 1 Song Thrush.
