Bright 'n breezy. A pleasant assortment of birds heading south including 52 Swift, 20 Common Tern, 17 Swallow, 15 Oyks, 12 Dunlin, 11 Sand Martin, 9 Whimbrel, 8 Golden Plover, 8 Redshank, 7 Teal, 7 Common Scoter, 6 Ringed Plover, 4 Barwit, 4 Turnstone, 3 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 2 Lapwing, Grey Plover, Greenshank, Green Sand, Common Gull plus 49 Common Scoter heading north. The Green Sand is fairly notable here & is not a species one encounters very often whilst sea-watching. The bushes were very predictable with the ringing attempts a waste of time. Loads of butterflies about the site at the moment.
Friday 2nd August 2013
A hot & muggy day with heavy thundery showers mid morning. A fairly quiet day bird wise with 13 Sand Martin, a Redshank & a Curlew all heading south and a Willow Warbler and Green Woodpecker in the Compound. A lot of butterflies about today with at least 20 Painted Lady and 40+ Peacock of note.
Ringing; single Green Woodpecker, Willow Warbler & Blackbird.
Thursday 1st August 2013
A sunny & hot day with the wind picking up by mid morning. A scattering of birds were about this morning with a Yellow Wagtail, a Green Woodpecker, 2 Willow Warblers and a Skylark noted. Offshore the southerly passage consisted of 7 Dunlin, 4 Little Tern, 3 Oystercatcher, 3 Sandwich Tern, 3 Whimbrel & a Curlew. In the moth traps was another new species for the site, this time a Confused.
Ringing; single Blackbird, Willow Warbler, Greenfinch, Great Tit & Green Woodpecker.

A breezy day with showers from late morning. 4 Willow Warblers in the compound were the first of the autumn, other migrants noted were a Crossbill, 1 House Martin, 33 Swallow and 90 Sand Martins all heading south. Offshore southerly passage involved 7 Oystercatcher, 16 Dunlin, 2 Redshank, 2 Turnstone, 5 Grey Plover, 4 Curlew, 9 Whimbrel, a Grey Heron and 2 Kittiwake. A Painted Lady was found at the Obs and the moth traps produced 40 Dark Sword-grass and the first Striped Wainscot for the site.

Tuesday 30th July 2013
A windy day with rain by mid morning. The first Black Redstart of the autumn was located on the jetty. Offshore southerly movement included 29 Dunlin, 7 Turnstone, 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Whimbrel, 2 Curlew, 2 Arctic Skua and single Redshank & Curlew. The moth traps were quieter this morning with 9 Dark Sword-grass and our first White-spotted Pug since 1994.

Monday 29th July 2013
A windy day, although still warm. A nice selection of waders headed south this morning, including 14 Oystercatcher, 12 Whimbrel, 4 Redshank, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 4 Curlew, 3 Ringed Plover, 4 Turnstone, 2 Dunlin and single Greenshank & Sanderling. Also heading south were 5 Kittiwake and 19 Swift.
Ringing; 2 Greenfinch.
Sunday 28th July 2013
A windy morning. There was a reasonable passage of birds offshore with 6 Whimbrel, 6 Knot, 4 Curlew, 3 Ringed Plover, 3 Sanderling, 3 Greenshank, 2 Shoveler, and single Grey Plover, Turnstone, Redshank and Common Scoter all heading south. Other birds of note were 15 Swift, 4 Sand Martin and a House Martin also heading south.
