Migrants continue to pass through with 2 Siskin south, 7 Goldfinch, 2 Yellow Wagtail south, 4 Swallows(3S,1N), 2 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, 3 Firecrests, 3 Wheatears, a Jay, A Green Woodpecker and 1 White Wagtail. Offshore 2 Whimbrel (1S, 1W), 24 Brent Goose (6N, 18S), 7 Bar-tailed Godwit west and 7 Grey Plover west, along with 2 Shoveler, Wigeon, Great Crested Grebe, Red-breasted Merganser, 5 Greylag Geese and a Bean Goose all south.

Another respectable dose of new migrants in today including 50 Blackies, 30 Redwing, 10 Songies, 10 Robins, 10 Wheatear, 5 Black Reds, 4 Skylark, 3 Goldcrests, 3 Blackcaps, 3 Chiffchaffs, Willow Warbler, Firecrest plus a couple of new Mipits, Starlings, Wrens, Goldfinch & Chaffinch passing through. Offshore Brents 102 N 42S, Wigeon 52N, Golden Plover 40 in off, Red-throated Diver 6N 8S, Whimbrel 1N 1S & Pomarine Skua 1S. Also good to see the number of Linnets on the reserve is slowly increasing at last as we know, from ringing recoveries, that quite a few go down to Spain for the winter. Late pm news of both Cuckoo & Ring Ouzel later in the day.

A wet start to the day with the overnight rain continuing until about 8am, there was also a northerly wind that dropped as the day went on. There were quiet a few thrushes about with 50+ Blackies, 30+ Redwing, 6 Songies and 8 Fieldfares, other migrants included 2 Blackcaps, 3 Wheatears, 4 Black Redstarts and a couple of Chiffs. Offshore 6 Wigeon, 19 Red-throated Divers, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, a Gannet and a Common Tern headed north along with a Fulmar south and the male Eider and a Sandwich Tern also about.
43 birds were ringed today; 28 Blackbird, 5 Song Thrush, 3 Robin, 2 Chaffinch, 2 Blackcap and single Goldcrest, Black Redstart and Chiffchaff. The was also a Dutch controlled Blackbird and a British controlled Great Tit.

Assorted spring migrants in small numbers including 8 Redwing, 8 Robins, 5 Wheatear, 3 Goldcrests, 2 Black Reds, 2 Chiffchaff, Fieldfare, Snipe, Siskin & of more note, a Great-spotted Woodpecker. Offshore a Pochard went south & a drake Eider was sat in the harbour. One of the Goldcrests was ringed here last October but has not been since then - migrating through the same site at both seasons ?

Light easterlies brought in a selection of migrants today with single Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Black Redstart and Firecrest along with 25+ Goldcrest, 2 Wheatear and a few Blackbirds, Song Thrush and Robins.
The best day ringing so far this year with 14 Goldcrest, 4 Blackbird, 4 Robin, 4 Song Thrush, and single Chiffchaff, Wren, Magpie, Blackcap, Chaffinch and Firecrest.

A few migrants about today with single Woodcock, Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Brambling along with 3 Goldcrests and 3 Redwing about the compound this morning. Offshore it was fairly quiet except for 151 Red-throated Divers south and another 14 north along with 7 Gannets and a Kittiwake.
Thanks to Port of Felixstowe for erecting a suitable nesting platform for the Peregrines to use this year. It did not take long for the local pair to adopt it and are now sitting on 3 eggs.

Sharp frost with freezing fog first thing clearing to give us some welcome sunshine making it feel like a nice winters day ! Signs of spring were the first passage Goldcrests, a Blackcap & a couple of Small Tort butterflies. Departing winter migrants included 6 Redwing, 3 Woodcock, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush & a handful of new Blackies & Robins. Offshore going north 153 Brents, 129 Red-throated Divers & 33 Cormorants. 3 Greylags going south were probably locals going walkabout. A Porpoise was offshore - one of a number of sightings of this species in recent weeks.
Ringing totals got into double figures for only the second time this spring with 13 ringed: Blackbird 3, Redwing 3, Robin 3, Greenfinch 3, Goldcrest 1.
