Recent Recoveries
Amongst the recent batch received is an adult Wood Pigeon ringed on 28th July 2010 that was shot 510km away in Ille-et-Vilaine, France on 23rd December 2010. Very few British ringed Woodies are found abroad with this bird presumably leaving our shores as a result of the cold weather last December. One of our Blackbirds ringed on 1st November 2011 was taken by a cat 216km away at Ogbourne St. George, Wiltshire on 24th Feburary 2011. Amongst the many tit movements was one ringed at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire on 5th December 2010 that passed through here on 12th March 2011 a notable movement of 110km for this species. A Goldcrest caught here on spring migration on 27th March 2011 had been originally ringed 149km away at Warnham, West Sussex on 13th November 2010. A Chiffchaff caught here on 7th April 2011 had been originally ringed 310km away in Somerset on 22nd September 2009. Also worth a mention is an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull that was fitted with a geolocater at Orfordness on 15th June 2010 that was trapped in Mauritana on 17th May 2011 - the finder tried to extract a fee of $3,000 in order to return the geolocater but failed (he must of thought we are made of money).
